🌎It’s INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE RURAL WOMEN and this is a time to educate, mobilize and celebrate!
🌾We want to honour rural women from around the world, and pay special tribute to our own rural ladies in GMEAN’s network. ✨Here are 3 of these special ladies out of Zambia, pictured with Women in Bloom’s president, Bianca Phiri. ✨The network of rural women in GMEAN has grown, and we are proud of ALL of them and their accomplishments since the program began.
The theme for International Day of Rural Women 2022 is “Rural Women, key for a world free from hunger and poverty.”
DID YOU KNOW:
* Agriculture is the largest employment sector for women in developing countries. On average, women make up about 43 percent of the labour workforce.
* Less than 20 percent of the world’s landholders are women. Although women usually manage the small plots of agricultural land in each family for income or sustenance in developing countries, land titles are most likely to be held by the men
* Rural women typically work longer hours than men and receive lower wages
* More rural women experience domestic violence
It’s time to #act to #changethenarrative #empowerruralwomen and #changecommunities
